Nutrition & Fitness Tips - The importance of Weight Training when dropping weight

First and foremost, if your goal is to drop weight congratulations on your efforts!  Most people begin by eating healthier food and doing cardiorespiratory activities like running, swimming, etc., which is great.  But sometimes there is a critical piece missing: weight training.  

Why is weight training important?  As you start to drop weight your skin will begin to loosen up and sag.  However, your skin is elastic.  This means it can stretch back and hug your body again!  BUT only if you help it along.  Weight Training will help to tighten your skin as you drop weight.  

Here is how it works...  When you are first loosing weight don't lift heavy weights.  Rather, focus on lighter weights with more repetitions.  If you start off with heavy weights you will be adding muscle over fat, which will make you look bigger.  And by adding more weight to your body you will stress your joints even more.  Additionally, conduct a complete weight training workout for the entire body.  Focus on the arms, legs, gluts, etc. This type of weight training workout will ensure that as you loose weight your skin tightens up everywhere and you look fantastic when you reach you weight loss goal!
